About Us

Hello! My products are all of my own creation and formulation. I believe strongly in the use of certified organic and ethically wildcrafted ingredients of the highest quality. My passion is in medicine making, and I value the use of safe, quality skin care products that do not contain chemical preservatives or fixatives. All ingredients in my products are listed accurately on the labels. I promote the use of medicinal herbs as an everyday 'food' item, encouraging people to include herbs in their daily diet as a healthy, preventative component of their life. I am a trained herbalist with a degree in Biology and Ecology, with schooling and internships ranging in location from Victoria, BC with Traditional Folk Herbalists Carol McGrath, Lynda Dowling of Happy Valley Lavender & Herb Farm, and Don Ollsin; to Albuquerque, New Mexico, with Amanda McQuaid Crawford of the New Mexico Herb Clinic. I am also a constant student of the herbs and those who use them. My time is spent as a mother; as a community member; growing and harvesting herbs in our gardens, both at home and in the wild; as an occasional vendor at farmers' and craft markets, fairs and festivals; teaching beginner's herbalism and natural skin-care product making; and working one on one with apprentices and WWOOFers (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) who come to learn about herbs, and their uses. Gillian's Herbs is a woman owned and operated business dedicated to making high quality, organic herbal products.

Everything we make, from luxurious skin care products to effective therapeutic herbal supplements, is on-site and lovingly handcrafted by Gillian herself, with the help of apprentices, in small batches to ensure quality and freshness.

The vast majority of the herbs used in our products are organically grown in our own BC Interior gardens. Others are gratefully wildcrafted from the wild herbal gardens around us, in the Southern Chilcotin Mountains, in St'at'imc territory.

Ethical and ecological wildcrafting is not only our only method of harvesting from the wild, but also a way of life we promote and teach. It means the harvest of wild plants without harming or disrupting the natural ecology that supports them: no over harvesting, no waste or littering, and no harvesting near polluted soil, water or air. And we always give thanks in return.

Herbal tinctures, teas, and aromatherapy bath and body products are some of our most popular items. The tinctures are formulated by Gillian, a trained herbalist, to relieve such dis-ease as chronic immune problems, stress, insomnia, headaches, psoriasis, arthritis and herpes. Single tinctures are available for those who want to formulate their own blends.

We have teas for taste and nutrition, or for soothing the soul and nerves. We have exquisite aromatherapy mists also used as skin toners and chemical-free air-fresheners, each with their own special quality: refreshment, happiness, balance, calming. As of 2008, these are now packaged in glass as opposed to plastic, for your health and that of the planet. Supplement your diet with minerals using our very popular and delicious Mineral Mix, with Spirulina, Nettle, Kelp, Garlic, Nutritional Yeast and Sesame Seeds - its great on popcorn, just ask the kids! Or why not spruce up a salad with Organic Basil, Thyme and Sage Vinegar, or try our ambrosial Raspberry Vinegar.
